This is probably my favourite Sylvester Stallone movie (Copland being second). This John Landis-directed comedy was panned by critics when it was released back in 1991.

But I loved it from the opening Figaro sequence.
The opening scene with a dying Kirk Douglas as Sly’s Snaps Provolone’s father was hilarious and set the tone for the entire movie.

The ensemble cast ensured the movie remained a riotous series of comic gags from start to finish.
Chaz Palminteri was hilarious as the bodyguard who goes teary over a love story.
Tim Curry was comic gold as the clueless dialiectician.
Marisa Tomei was brilliant as the spoilt brat daughter of Snaps Provolone.

The scenes involving the Fanuccis and Sly’s Snaps and Vincent Spano’s Anthony Rossano were brilliant comedy.
I’ve seen it more than a dozen times and each time is funnier than the last. I haven’t seen it in years though but I can still remember many of the dialogues from the movie. “Upset? Who says I am upset?
You come into my house telling me you’ve been stealing my money and sleeping with my daughter.

You guys see anything to be upset about?
You’re lucky you didn’t upset me yesterday like you didn’t upset me today or you’ll be wearing a cement kimono by tomorrow!” Brilliant movie! 8.5/10
