Movie Review: Glamour Girls
In terms of audience anticipation, the much awaited Glamour Girls remake had a lot going for it in the nostalgia department. After all, its 1994 original is unarguably a classic from the early days of Nollywood.
So, how does the Netflix-streaming remake stack up compared to the original?
Well, for one; the original didn't leave you extremely disappointed and utterly confused as to what its storyline was about as the remake does.
For its day, the original was somewhat revolutionary in terms of storyline and its delivery.
However, given today's advancement in film making and sophistication of audience palate, the remake is disappointingly retrogressive.
The dialogue and acting were more cringeworthy than impressive. The storyline was off-putting on account of how haphazardly put together it came across as.
There were more holes in the story than you'd find in a stripper's mesh outfit.
In fact, the only thing more asphyxiating than the illogic of its plot holes oscillates between Toke Makinwa's horrible acting and the sight of her puppies' actual asphyxiation, mangled horribly as they were, in a garish white costume she donned in one of the movie's many pointless scenes.
There was nothing truly glamorous about Glamour Girls. In the end, it was like a 2-hour cringeworthy escort service that leaves you more turned off than turned on. 3/10
